Who We Are
Christ Our Savior is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. We are conservative about the Bible, often catholic in appearance, but relentlessly focused on salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, informed by Scripture alone.
Our congregation is small, but it is younger, more diverse, and more active than average in our church body. We like to think of ourselves as aggressively friendly.

Lenten Worship 2025
Lent is traditionally a season of teaching leading up to Easter. The early church used these weeks to prepare converts for baptism. We will be honoring that this year by teaching eight disciplines of Christianity, drawn from the Bible and the traditional teachings of the Lutheran Church. All Lenten worship except Good Friday is at 6:30pm.
Date | Event | Theme: Discipline of… |
March 5 | Ash Wednesday | Faith |
March 12 | Second Lenten Midweek | Quiet |
March 19 | Third Lenten Midweek | Rhythm |
March 26 | Fourth Lenten Midweek | Bridging |
April 2 | Fifth Lenten Midweek | Mercy |
April 9 | Sixth Lenten Midweek | Purity |
April 16 | Holy Wednesday | Honesty |
April 17 | Maundy Thursday | Thanksgiving |
There will be a Tenebrae (service of darkness) on Good Friday at 8:00pm, April 18.
Food Pantry

While Christ Our Savior is primarily a “Word and Sacrament Ministry,” we take seriously our Lord’s command to care for those in need around us. One important way we do that is through our Food Pantry program, an effort helped by many volunteers beyond our membership, but which takes place right in our community Center. If you are interested in volunteering with the food pantry, or think you might benefit from the food we provide, please follow the link to our Food Pantry Page.
Safe Haven (Thursday after School Program)
One of our closest neighbors on Blanco Road is the Nimitz Middle School. We have a special place in our hearts for this school. The Junior ROTC program there sends us volunteers to help with our food pantry and in other ways, too. Often, if we have some extra food when everyone is done (like, for instances, a dozen large boxes of tomatoes) we send them over to Nimitz for their kitchen or to distribute to teachers and staff. We also try to volunteer at the school, and we take an active interest in the Northeast Independent School district.
One way that we seek to minister to students at the school is through an after school program. We are a small church, and we wish we could do more, but we have recently been offering a program on Thursday afternoon when school is open. If you are interested in participating in this program, follow the link to the Safe Haven page.
About Our Pastor

Ed Giese (rhymes with “easy”), or “Pastor Ed,” has been serving part time at Christ Our Savior since 2016. He worked first with Pastor Ely Prieto, then with Pastor Dan Mueller. Starting in January 2024, Pastor Ed is the sole called pastor at Christ our Savior.
Ed was born in Houston and spent some time in the New York area growing up. He attended UT in Austin and received bachelors degrees in Liberal Arts and Chemical Engineering. His early career took him to the Boston area, where he met his wife, Ricki. God blessed them with four boys, all born in New Hampshire. In 1995, Ed followed a call from God and undertook training at Fort Wayne Theological seminary as a second career. He served two churches full time, Grace in Seguin and Resurrection in Fredericksburg, until God called him, this time to a worker-priest career. He since served a number of churches in central Texas, most notable Genesis Lutheran church in Buchanan dam, before working with Dr. Ely Prieto and then Pastor Dan, who have remained friends even as they were called to new ministries.
Ed’s ministry passion is the way that God is calling the church to grow in faith through changing social structures driven by technology. He feels that a Biblical faith is more relevant than ever.
Giving at Christ Our Savior
Some churches talk a lot about money, but we don’t much, really. The Lutheran approach to giving, as to many other issues, is to encourage a faith so strong that you are willing to bet your life on it–that you are living in certainty of a heavenly future–and then live obediently in this life to the God who has saved us. He commands generosity, and so we obey.
We really do appreciate the generosity of our members and friends of the congregation. So far, that has been enough to get by. We like to make it easy to support us. Here’s how:
In person giving
We receive an offering every Sunday. We accept cash and checks. We provide envelopes so that you can receive a summary for tax purposes or whatever else, although the pastor is generally ignorant of giving levels. Midweek services often do not have a formal offering, but we are always willing to receive help in person, with our thanks.
Mail In Checks
Please do not mail cash. If you would like to mail a check, use the church address shown above. We do not generally acknowledge mailed offerings except at the end of the year.
Credit Cards
We have two services we use if you would like to donate with credit card. Please not that both of these methods result in a service fee to us, so that we do not receive the full offering you make.

Paypal credit card donation:

Direct Bank Transfer
We currently support Zelle. If your bank supports Zelle, you can set up to transfer money to us without fees. Your bank may support the ability for you to make regular donations, which we really appreciate. Our Zelle id is our admin email: admin@coslc.org .
